Jakarta, Infopublik – People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan hopes the moratorium of regional expansion is not applied in border areas, since the the border areas are the face of Indonesia.
Zulkifliexpressed this in a meeting with North Kalimantan’s Nunukan community representatives called Border area Indigenous Culture Group (KABUDAYA), Sunday (9/24).
At the meeting, Nunukan people complained for the ongoing border dispute between Indonesia and Malaysia.
"We do not want the moratorium to be enforced in border areas. What happens if the border areas are less developed," said Zulkifli.
According to him, there are 154 thousand hectares and 12 villages in dispute in Nunukan which inhabited by Indonesian citizens. Therefore, he demanded this matter to become a special concern of the government. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
