Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia Home Affairs Minister issued three regulations concerning the provision of drinking water services for the public.
The three regulations are Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 48 of 2016 concerning debt settlement of local drinking water company to central government, Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 70 of 2016 concerning water tariffs subsidies, and Minister of Home Affairs Regulation No. 71 concerning the calculation and determination of drinking water tariffs.
According to Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, the availability of drinking water for the public is very important. "This policy is in line with Jokowi-JK’s Nawacita program and is expected to meet people’s drinking water needs," he said in his office, Thursday (9/22).
According to him, Regional-Owned Enterprises plays a strategic role. "In 2015, around 53 percent of ROEs were categorized as healthy, 28 percent were less healthy, and 20 percent were categories as not healthy," he said.
He asserted that drinking water ROEs are facing a number of problems such as availability of raw water, production systems, and quality water. "I hope with the issuance of these regulations, the performance of drinking water regional-owned enterprises can be optimal," he concluded. (translator: Siti Chodijah)
