Jakarta, InfoPublik - The Indonesian government expected that the attendance of the Middle East Quartet of Russia, the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations in the 5th Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jakarta March 6—7, 2016 will give impact towards the Palestinian independence effort.
Every attempt on the recognition of the sovereignty of Palestine remains in dispute in international fora.
"One of the four large states has not confirmed its attendance, but we hope that their attendance, if possible, will ease the achievement of Palestinian sovereignity," said the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Director General of Multilateral Affairs, Hasan Kleib, in Jakarta on Thursday (2/25).
According to Mr. Kleib, currently, two heads of states have confirmed their attendance—the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Arrmanatha Nasir, added that the Indonesian and Australian security authorities continue to coordinate and remain vigilant.
"Indonesian security forces remain vigilant in anticipating the Summit. There is no travel advisory report from Australia," he said.
Mr. Nasir asserted that in addition to Australia, Indonesia also cooperates closely with Turkey on security issues.
"An agreement has been established between the Indonesian and Turkish governments to develop cooperation in the fields of intelligence," he said. (Translator: Penni Patmawati Rusman)
