Jayapura, InfoPublik - Many new potential candidates for paralympic athletes found in various sports competed at the National Paralympic Games (Peparnas) XVI Papua held in Jayapura City and Regency, Papua Province.

The Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPCI) Chairman Senny Marbun said, "Now, many new young athletes are emerging, especially in Badminton," in a press conference at the MCI’s Peparnas Papua Media Center on Friday (11/12).

The Chairman also mentioned that many positive surprises occurred during the Peparnas XVI Papua.

The proudest moments, he continued, were the record-breakings that occurred in several sports such as athletics and swimming.

"There were a lot of record breakers. It was incredible. We did not expect that," he said.

He expects these record-breaking athletes are to be listed in the National Training to join the national team and compete at regional and international levels.

The NPCI Chairman also conveyed his appreciation to the Central Government, the Papua Regional Government, and all related stakeholders for supporting and making this quadrennial national sporting event a success right until the end.

“We did good, in fact amazing. We sorted out all obstacles so that everything was going well. I hope these record-breaker's athletes will be listed to the National Training to become the next generation of Paralympic athletes,” he concluded.
