Jakarta, InfoPublik – The government respects freedom of expression regarding the action plans and student demands related to the issue of postponing election and extending the presidential term.

However, at the same time, students and all parties are invited to support the agenda of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency.

Communications and Informatics Minister, Johnny G. Plate, said that the support is important because Indonesia’s G20 chairmanship takes place in a difficult global situation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Indonesia’s G20 Presidency is not easy, in the midst of a difficult global situation. We all know how the tug-of-war between world powers affect our preparations and the implementation of the G20," said the Minister at a press conference at his residence, Jakarta, on Sunday, April 10,2022.

During the press conference, the Minister Johnny G. Plate, was accompanied by the ministry’s  Public Information and Communications Director General, Usman Kansong.

According to the Minister, Indonesia's G20 Presidency needs mutual attention to succeed.

With solid support, it is hoped that national energy will focus on solving various global problems discussed in the international forum.

"This all requires national solidity so that our national energy is focused, centralized, becomes strong to solve the problems of global impacts and we can focus and succeed as the G20 Presidency," he said.

Minister Johnny further said that President Joko Widodo had emphasized that the lineup of Kabinet Indonesia Maju (Indonesia Onward Cabinet) should focus on restoring the economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic and anticipating the economic impact of the Russia-Ukraine war.

One of the potential impacts of the conflict on Indonesia relates to the availability of fuel oil, food and food price fluctuations.

"Because the impact of the war is significant on the global world in terms of food supply, especially those produced in Russia and Ukraine and its prices. Then also the impact on the availability of fuel or energy and fuel prices, it also has an impact on Indonesia. So, the ministers were asked to focus on those two problems," he explained.

He added that many countries in the world are currently experiencing high inflation, even stagnation or the worst impact on the economy (stagflation).

For example, the United States, which in the last 40 years experienced inflation of 7.9 percent, the European Union had inflation of 7 percent, Argentina and Turkey even had inflation of almost 50 percent.

"In Indonesia, our economy is still quite resilient, where our inflation is still under control according to what we assume in our macro assumptions in the range of 2 to 4 percent," he said.
