Jakarta, InfoPublik - Small and medium industries (IKM) plays a strategic role in improving national economic growth.
"Business units in IKM have absorbed 8.7 million employment, resulted in the increased national economy and reduced poverty," said Indonesian Industry Minister Saleh Husin in Jakarta, Monday (3/28).
According to him, the development of small and medium industries is in line with government’s vision on the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2015-2019, namely the realization of Indonesia as a sovereign, self-reliant nation with strong personality, based on mutual cooperation.
Furthermore, in order to enhance its roe, IKM is directed to have a medium-term objective. The purpose is to realize competitive IKM that plays a significant role in strengthening national industrial structure, alleviating poverty and expanding employment opportunity, as well as producing industrial goods and/or services for export.
Earlier, Husin held a coordination meeting on Sunday (3/27) in Aceh province in order to encourage the equal distribution and growth of IKM accross Indonesia, especially outside Java. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
