Bandung, InfoPublik – The Indonesian Government will take an active role in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in order to promote the respect and protection of human rights in Indonesia.
"Indonesia's membership in the UN Human Rights Council is expected to foster the respect and protection of human rights in the country,” said the Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Coordinating Ministry's foreign policy deputy Pribadi Sutiono in a discussion on Friday, 26 February.
The discussion held in Bandung centered on human rights issues and Indonesia's membership in the UNHRC.
The event was attended by representatives from the Human Development and Cultural Affairs Coordinating Ministry, the Presidential Staff Office, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Defense Ministry, Legal and Human Rights Ministry, Social Affairs Ministry, Women Empowerment and Children Protection Ministry, the Attorney General's Office, the National Police, the Military Headquarters, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency, the National Commission for Human Rights Commission, the National Commission for Women, and the Commission for Children Protection.
The topic of discussion was various human rights issues in the UNHRC's agenda that have become the concern, among others intolerance, racial discrimination, freedom of expression, death penalty, religious freedom, disability, impunity, the impact of COVID-19 on respect for human rights, and the challenges on the fulfillment of the children and women rights.
