Jakarta, InfoPublik - Directorate of Narcotics of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim), Bangka Belitung Regional Police, and the Customs Office confiscated 200 kilograms of narcotics originating from international networks.
Bareskrim deputy chief Insp. Gen. Wahyu Hadiningrat explained that the narcotics came from Myanmar. These illicit goods were carried through the Malaysian route to Riau Islands and Bangka Belitung before they were smuggled to Jakarta via Port Tanjung Priok.
"We confiscated 200 kilograms of methamphetamine from Myanmar," Wahyu said in a press conference on Wednesday, 29 July.
In this case, investigators arrested four suspects by the initials SC, A, RS, and YD.
To trick the law enforcement officers, the methamphetamines were packed in white plastic packagings and were hidden among hundreds of sacks of corn. “In one sack of corn there were four packs of methamphetamines," Wahyu added.
As a result of their actions, the four suspects were charged under Article 114 of Law Number 35 Year 2009 on Narcotics. They will face life imprisonment or death penalty.
