Jakarta, InfoPublik – General Election Commission (KPU) will conduct coklit—voter verification—from 15 July to 13 August to prepare final voter list of 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election.

The verification process will comply with the health protocol to prevent COVID-19 spread. "Hopefully, it will run smoothly. We will apply strict health protocol in all stages of the 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election to prevent the COVID-19 spread. We encourage the public to comply with strict health protocol," Arief said on Monday, 27 July.

“The public must follow this stage as it is very vital to safeguard their rights in the election.”

Previously, he supervised the verification in Surabaya by visiting former East Java Vice Governor Saifullah Yusuf, former State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan, and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. Meanwhile, other KPU commissioners also monitored the process in a number of locations across Indonesia.

“I want to ensure that PPDPs [voter data updating officers] carry out their duty in accordance with the regulations. We also need local leaders to support this process,” he added.

The 2020 Simultaneous Regional Election will take place in nine provinces, 37 cities, and 224 regencies.

The provinces are West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, Riau Islands, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi. Meanwhile, 37 cities that will conduct the election are spread across 32 provinces out of 34 total provinces in the country.

The potential voter data increases 456,256 people. Thus, the total voters will rise to 105,852,706 from 105,396,450 people. (Photo: KPU, Writer: Eko Budiono, Editor: Isma, Translator: Filmon Warouw)
