Jakarta, InfoPublik – The Indonesian Agriculture Ministry’s head of training center, Surachman Suwardi, said 20 Palestinian farmers and agriculture authority officials participate in hydroponics technique training at the Ministry’s Center for Agricultural Training (BBPP) in Lembang, West Bandung regency, West Java.

"The 20 Palestinians participate in a twenty-day training at BBPP Lembang. The training focuses on hydroponics farming technique and packaging," said Mr. Suwardi, Wednesday (2/3).

According to him, the training is the continuation of agricultural training program in the framework of South-South Cooperation which has been implemented since 1980.

This is the second group of Palestinian participants who follow the training, after the first group participating in the same program in 2013.

Participants are trained by instructors from the BBPP about theories, practices, and visits to hydroponics research sites and packaging center in Lembang, West Bandung regency.

"In addition to receiving lessons on the techniques and theories, participants can practice the theory and have a site visit so that the training would be more interactive," said Suwardi.

Idham, one of the participants, stated that he is benefited a lot from the training. Besides knowing hydroponic farming techniques, he can share experiences on hydroponics development and market.

"During our stay, we will learn and practice hydroponics techniques. Of course, we need a number of modifications so it can be applied in our country. But in principle, it could be done there," said Idham.

"From today to the next few days, I could ask many questions related to hydroponic techniques and directly interact with practitioners in the field."

Meanwhile, Affandi, the BBPP Lembang’s head of program said that the center has prepared an international training program and provided a special hall for international training.

"The training curriculum is tailored in accordance to their needs, including Palestinian participants who want to focus on hydroponics and packaging management. We also conduct experiences sharing to make the training more interactive," he said. (Translator: Penni Patmawati Rusman)
