Jakarta, InfoPublik - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that consumer confidence towards the economy is gradually increasing.

"The Consumer Confidence Index in April 2021 was at the level of 101.5. This figure was higher than that of early 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic. This index has also significantly increased by 9.8 percent for three consecutive months since February 2021, "said Sri Mulyani at the APBN KITA Press Conference on Tuesday, 25 May.

According to the minister, public consumption may increase if COVID-19 is under control. This is what caused the public consumption in April 2021 to show an upward trend which mainly was contributed by the food and beverages sector.

"Despite positive trends and significant increase on clothing sector ahead of Eid al Fitr, the trends on recreation sector remained flat. However, the household equipment sector is showing a reversal trend even though its level is still far below before the onset of COVID-19," she explained.

She added the survey from the Mandiri Spending Index reported that people’s consumption based on the income group showed an increase in consumption or spending, where the shopping value index reached the level of 112.5. “This trend is a sign of recovery," she said.
