Indonesia Attends ASEAN Transport Forum to improve cooperation and integration

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Enhancing cooperation with neighboring countries, as well as promoting the nation’s transportation, Indonesian government is taking part and contributing to international forum on transportation, namely the 48th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM), and the 25th ASEAN Transport Ministers (ATM) and related meetings.

Acting as Head of Delegation (HOD) in the forum was the Transportation Ministry’s Secretary General Djoko Sasono.

"Through this meeting, we seek to further strengthen transportation cooperation between ASEAN Member-Countries and ASEAN dialogue partners, aiming to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, and support ASEAN in building communities and regional integration," said Transportation Ministry’s Secretary General Djoko Sasono in the opening of the 48th ASEAN STOM meeting, and the 25th ATM in Ha Noi Vietnam, Monday (11/11).

Djoko explained that Indonesian Government will identify new areas of cooperation with ASEAN dialogue partners in various transportation sectors.

"I hope that ASEAN and its dialogue partners can collectively make efforts to move forward in various sustainable initiatives," he said.

Moreover, Djoko asserted that Indonesia is committed to collaborate and work together to ensure the commitments of the ASEAN Meeting could be implemented.

After the opening, the meetings slated to be held on 11-15 November 2019 will further discuss the reports from the Working Groups of all transportation sectors, including land, maritime, air transport, and transport facilitation.

There are five main discussion topics in the maritime transport sector, namely the ASEAN Single Shipping Market (ASSM), implementation of the ASEAN Ro-Ro shipping network, improvement of navigation systems and security measures in accordance with International Standards, intensification of regional cooperation in developing transportation, as well as intensification of regional cooperation in developing policies and strategies related to sustainable transport.

Meanwhile, the air transport sector discusses two main topics, namely, ASEAN Air Transport Sectoral Negotiation and ASEAN’s Single Aviation Market (ASAM).

In addition, the main discussion on land transport and transport facilitation sectors discus the ASEAN Multisector Road Safety Special Working Group (MRSSWG), ASEAN Highway Sub-Working Group Meeting, Singapore-Kunming Rail Link (SKRL), and the implementation of Sustainable Land Transport.

Indonesian Transportation Ministry’s delegation to the meetings consists of representatives of all sub-sectors within the Ministry, including the Secretariat General, Directorate General of Land Transportation, Directorate General for Sea Transportation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Directorate General of Railways, Transportation Research and Development Agency, and the Center for International Partnership and Cooperation Facilitation (PFKKI).
