Jakarta, InfoPublik – The government enhanced border areas development including establishing National Border Crossing Posts (PLBN).
"We have had a meeting to discuss budgeting for optimizing 11 PLBN development plan. From 11 planned PLBNs, we are building four this year in Merauke, West Kalimantan, and two in North Kalimantan. The development is fully carried out by the Public Works and Housing Ministry. We hope two or three PLBNs are completed before October 2019," said Home Affairs Minister and Border Management Agency (BNPP) Head Tjahjo Kumolo, in a written statement on Thursday (9/5).
Minister Tjahjo appealed to the regional heads to make the border areas as an independent areas after being built by the central government.
"The border areas must be seriously managed and be independent regions that can grow in terms of investment, tourism, and trade. The areas must be able to attract neighboring citizens’ and become local investment opportunities to increase competitiveness and economic growth," he explained.
He added that border areas development is one of the priority programs of Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla government. (Eko Budiono, Translator: Wilda Stiana)
