Jakarta, InfoPublik - Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry revealed that shrimp is currently the only marine commodity which is ready to compete in Industry 4.0 era. Its technology, equipment, and facility are ready to face the era.
A score of shrimp ponds have applied good and sustainable aquaculture principles, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry’s aquaculture director general Slamet Soebjakto said. His office has planned to encourage other aquaculture commodities to adapt the technology advancement.
“When I see from the investment side, I can say it is profitable. Its technology, equipment, and facility are complete, so are its trade system and marketing,” he said at the side of Aquatic Asia & Indoaqua 2018 opening ceremony at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta on Wednesday (11/28).
He also revealed that a number of shrimp ponds have met biosecurity system that guarantees the commodity is free from disease.
Other high potential commodities beside shrimps are silver catfish and seaweed. Seaweed sale value reaches Rp20,000 per kilogram.
“Products that have high sale value such as silver catfish and seaweed must be encouraged for export. I hope these commodities can enter the Industry 4.0, so the sale value will increase,” he added.
The aquaculture commodities penetration in Industry 4.0 will also open up promising business opportunity for the young generation. Sustainable technology can shorten aquaculture sector distribution chain.
“Business transformation of aquaculture into Industry 4.0 is expected to provide the best way in developing a more efficient and measurable production system,” he added.
Slamet also reminded the need of efficiency in the aspects of technical, management, human resources development, and business management.
“Industry 4.0 will open up the market and raise the sale value because it removes middle man and simplifies trade system. Thus, the farmers will enjoy the profit,” he concluded.
