Nusa Dua, InfoPublik - The use of online-based application platform is considered effective in reducing piracy of local artwork.
"It can be overcome with digital platform," said Bekraf Deputy Head for Intellectual Property Rights Facilitation and Regulation Ari Juliano Gema at the Creative Session, of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE), Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday (6/11).
Ari emphasized that the prevalent artwork piracy in Indonesia is caused by three factors, namely the more affordable prices of pirated products compared to original products, the limited distribution of original products leaving certain consumers at certain areas with no access to the original artworks, and the addictive nature of purchasing pirated products.
The digital-based platform, according to him, can be used to overcome the contributing factors to piracy. "Online platform bridges the gap caused by the three factors," he added.
Through this platform, the Collective Management Institution (LMK) will gather all collection of artwork, And then the institution will charge radio stations, television stations, or websites displaying or showing the artworks.
The LMK will distribute royalties to owners of respective artworks in accordance with the data listed in the application. "Through this application, artwork owners will be able to receive royalties every month," he concluded.
