Nusa Dua, InfoPublik – Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf) in collaboration with Indonesian Creative Information and Communication Technology Society of Indonesia (MIKTI) launched the Indonesia Startup Database 2018 on the sidelines of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) meetings.
"This startup data serves as the foundation to build a startup ecosystem. The availability of number and distribution of tech startups throughout Indonesia indicates the country’s reference in building a startup ecosystem," said Hari Santosa Sungkari, Deputy Chairman of Infrastructure of BEKRAF during the launch of the 2018 Startup Indonesia Database at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (6/11).
Hari Sungkari added that this database will provide further reliable information to determine how many Incubator and Accelerator should be built and where, what skills should be provided by universities in certain cities, and investment policies as well as incentives that must be designed.
The government has also explicitly stated the urge to make Indonesia as one of the leading countries based on digital industry strength, envisioning Indonesia as The Digital Energy of Asia.
On the same occasion, MIKTI Chairman Joddy Hernady said, "We took the initiative to collect, verify and publish startup data in Indonesia in an Indonesia Startup Database 2018."
Joddy also hopes the database will serve as one of MIKTI's contributions to the national industry, and assist all stakeholders in policy making as well as strategy and program formulation which are more effective. The database itself still needs to be improved to make it a more comprehensive joint reference in the national digital industry.
The World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) is the first international conference to discuss the creative economy. The event held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) on 6-8 November carries the theme Inclusively Creative by raising five main issues, namely social cohesion, regulation, marketing, ecosystems, and financing of the creative industry. The event is attended by representatives from more than 50 countries and more than 2,000 participants.
WCCE 2018 will also formulate Bali Declaration which will be proposed to the UN General Assembly next year. This is expected to further strengthen the ecosystem and support the development of the world's creative economy that has entered the era of 4.0. (Reposter: Irvina Valah, Translator: Siti Chodijah)
