Jakarta, InfoPublik – Asian Games 2018 has become an opportunity for small and medium industry (SMI) to promote their products and to expand export market.

“We have encouraged SMI to participate in the Asian Games 2018 which will be held next month,” said Industry Ministry’s small and medium industry director general Gati Wibawaningsih in Jakarta, Tuesday (7/24). The Asia’s multisport event will be started on Aug. 18, 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang.

She said that there is a huge business opportunity for national SMIs in the event that will be participated by 45 countries. They can sell special products from Jakarta and Palembang to the visitors, for example, handicrafts, foods, and beverages.

“We hope not only does big industry participate in this event but also small and medium industry or big company collaborate with SMI,” said Gati.

The opportunities lie in the huge number of participants that include 10,000 athletes and officials, 5,000 media personnel, 2,500 OCA Family, 5,500 technical delegates, 20,000 volunteers, and about 200,000 supporters. “In addition, there are more than 3 million local spectators who will watch 42 sports events in Asian Games 2018,” she said.

The Ministry continues to improve the national SMI’s competitiveness because the industries have given enormous contribution to the national economy development. “SMI is a majority sector in the domestic industry population,” said Gati.

One of the Industry Ministry’s footwear SMI partners is Brodo that succeeds to become Asian Games 2018 official merchandise. “Brodo is one of the footwear brands produced by local SMI in Bandung. It also collaborates with other 11 SMIs in Bandung,” she said.

Brodo which was established in 2010 had passed testing process from Indonesia Footwear Industry Development Center [BPIPI] under Industry Ministry’s Directorate General for Small and Medium Industry. “Therefore, Brodo’s quality is guaranteed,” she added.

This year, BPIPI and Brodo collaborated in shoes design making training. “Brodo will be in charge in design and product assistance and BPIPI will handle the product and prototype development,” she said.

Meanwhile, Brodo is currently developing its business to meet both domestic and export consumers demand. They will be supported by three major investors which consisted of two companies from the United States and Japan.

For Asian Games 2018, Brodo Footwear CEO Yukka Harlanda said the company will produce 1,000 shoe pairs with nine designs that fit with the event’s theme. “Every design will be produced to more than 100 pairs,” he said.

The types of the shoes are sneakers and slip on and have the logo, mascots, and colors of Asian Games 2018.

He said that Brodo will make the most out of this event to introduce the brand to the world.

“We can gain awareness from international world and use it as a stepping stone to the international market. Its commercial opportunity is huge. This is the right moment for us,” he concluded. (Translator: FW)
