January 2018 Inflation at 0.62 Percent

Jakarta, InfoPublik – The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded inflation in January 2018 at 0.62 percent. Out of 82 CPI cities, 79 experienced inflation and three cities experienced deflation.

BPS Head Suhariyanto said the highest inflation was in Bandar Lampung at 1.42 percent and the highest deflation was in Jayapura at 1.12 percent. The inflation rate for the calendar year of January 2018 was 0.62 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (January 2018 to January 2017) was 3.25 percent.

"Inflation occurred due to increased price of some expenditure group indices. The group of foodstuffs was 2.34 percent; prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco group was 0.43 percent; and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel was 0.23 percent," said Suhariyanto, Thursday (2/1).

Dominant commodities contributed to inflation, are rice 0.24 percent, chicken meat 0.07 percent, and fresh fish 0.05 percent. In addition, filter cigarette 0.02 percent and fried chicken, noodles, rice with side dishes, and clove cigarettes 0.01 percent respectively. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
