Deflation at 0.09 Percent In February 2016

Head of BPS, Suryamin, said the highest deflation occurred in Merauke at 2.95 percent and the lowest in Sibolga, Bogor, Sumenep and Makassar at 0.02 percent.

 

The highest inflation occured in Tanjung Pandan at 1.02 percent and the lowest occured in Banda Aceh at 0.02 percent.

 

"Deflation happens due to decrease of prices of a number of expenditure groups, such as food group at 0.58 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel group at 0.45 percent; and transportation, communication, and financial services group at 0.15 percent," said Mr. Suryamin in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/3).

 

Besides that, inflation is also recorded in processed food, beverages, cigarette, and tobacco group at 0.63 percent; clothing group at 0.64 percent; health group at 0.26 percent; and education, recreation, and sport group 0.06 percent. 

 

A number of commodity prices experienced decline in February 2016 are electricity, onion, chicken meat, gasoline, eggs, and chili. Meanwhile, commodities that experienced price rising are  filtered cigarettes, gold and jewelry, rice, fresh fish, and cigarettes.

 

The calendar year inflation rate (January-February) was at 0.42 percent and year-on-year inflation rate (February 2016 towards February 2015) was 4.42 percent.

 

The core component in February 2016 experienced inflation at 0.31 percent, and the inflation rate for core component of 2016 calendar year (January-February) was 0.60 percent.
