Jakarta, InfoPublik - ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) provides a greater opportunity to access goods and services market as well as professional and skilled workforce demand.
The professional and skilled manpower are now able to work across the ASEAN region. "Job opportunities are wider. However, the professional and skilled workers must have competency," said the Manpower Ministry’s Director General of Training and Productivity Development Khairul Anwar in Jakarta, Monday (1/18).
According to him, there are some sectors that have a good chance to take advantage in AEC. "Those sectors are Tourism as in Hotels, Restaurants, and Cruise Ships; Construction as Engineers, Architects, Technicians, and Plumbers; Healthcare as Doctor or Nurse; Accounting; Agriculture as Plantation Workers; Electronic Industry; Automotive Industry; Fishery as Fishing Boats Crew; Sea and Air Transportation; and Information Technology [IT]," he said.
Therefore, Mr. Anwar asked students to seriously prepare themselves with the appropriate competencies according to their own interests and talents as well as foreign language skill and open to global information to broaden their knowledge.
The manpower’s low quality and competitiveness become issues that must be addressed by the Indonesians in order to emerge as a winner in AEC. ASEAN workforce market requires professional and skilled workers who can move and adapt in ASEAN countries.
According to him, the government must keep accelerating the infrastructure development and support the competency-based human resources development. It includes National Working Competency Standard (SKKNI) implementation; National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) implementation; institutes of vocational education and job training development; professional certification agencies development; and workforce mutual recognition amongst ASEAN nations.
In addition, the business community and the public must take part in winning AEC competition. They must improve the competitiveness of its goods and services quality to win the ASEAN market. “To achieve this goal, competent human resources are needed," he concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
