Jakarta, InfoPublik – General Election Commission (KPU) chairman Arief Budiman said the provisional budget submission for the implementation of simultaneous regional election 2018 reached Rp14.3 trillion.

"The number includes proposals from several major regions, such as Papua and East Java Provinces," Arief said in a press release on Thursday (18/5).

The recent budget proposal is higher than the initial number submitted at the hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II which reached Rp11.3 trillion.

Arief underlined the initial amount did not include the budget proposals from 15 regions.

He predicted that the proposed budget may not be fully approved because the government only agreed 70 percent of budget submission like in previous experience.

Of the 70 percent of the submission, the average realization of financing only reached 60 percent. Thus, the realization of the Simultaneous Regional Election 2018 budget is only about Rp10 trillion.

In 2014, he said, the Commission proposed a budget amounted to Ro16.9 trillion for legislative and presidential elections but the realization was about Rp13 trillion.

"The regional KPU have prepared the budget based on the needs. The budget includes the financing for the candidates and campaign props according to the composition of political parties in the regions," he said.

The Simultaneous Regional Election will be held in 17 provinces, 39 cities, and 115 districts on Jun. 27, 2018. (Translator: Filmon Warouw)
