Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia Ministry of Manpower held a singing ceremony for Memorandum of Understanding and Joint Agreement, inauguration of Labour Team of Policy Research (TPR), and the 2016 Research and Development National Working Meeting.

The event themed "Strengthening Synergies and Partnerships to Improve Performance of Development in The Field of Labor" was held at the Ministry of Manpower office, South Jakarta, Monday (3/21).

“Today we gather to work as a team as stipulated in the signed MoU. The significance of the deal is to facilitate coordination and communication in achieving a goal, especially for the Ministry of Manpower,” said the Ministry's Secretary General Abdul Wahab Bangkona who was representing Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri when opening the event on Monday (3/21).

According to Wahab, with the MoU, it is expected that in the future, the government could formulate and stipulate policies through careful and systematic studies so that biases could be minimized.

In order to improve the ministry’s labor-related programs, we have to consider people’s actual needs. “For example, there are programs we implement regularly to develop entrepreneurs,” he said.

He explained that each region has different potentials and market needs. Thus, challenges often occur in determining program priorities.

Wahab explained that research is expected to gain results of investigations and studies that can be directly followed up by action programs in the context of Indonesian people empowerment and productivity enhancement.

Thus, the team is expected to immediately determine the focus of studies to be followed up to produce recommendations that can be implemented in this country.

The MoU is considered as the legal foundation to conduct cooperation. One of the objectives of the MoU is to bind all parties to work together in integrated harmony, he added.

The team is expected to be the national master plan to backup everyone working in the area of labor, not only in the ministry, but also at local government offices in the provincial, regency/municipality, and village level.

“When we are talking about labor, surely it comprises manpower training, manpower placement, industrial relationship, and the supervision. Once we’re talking about that segment, we’re talking about government unit,” he said.

It is expected that through the national working meeting, synergy, enhancement, orientation, effectiveness and efficiency will be performed in the execution of the task. All involved parties are expected to conduct exploration through informative research in order to realise the national mission in the field of labor.

Wahab said that services in this field are expected to be more effective and efficient for people. Thus, it is necessary to consider “the access for the whole nation” as quoted by the minister. (Translator : Erik Limantara)
