Indonesia, South Korea agree to expand economic cooperation

Bogor, InfoPublik - President Joko Widodo received honorary visit of the President of the Republic of Korea’s Special Envoy to ASEAN Park Won-soon who is also the Mayor of Seoul at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java on Monday (5/23).

At the event, President Joko Widodo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and State Secretariat Minister Pratikno.

After the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that the South Korean government is committed to maintain the bilateral relation. Moreover, South Korea recognizes Indonesia as the largest ASEAN country that has an important role in the region’s development.

"The new South Korean government commits to improve the relations with Indonesia as the largest country in ASEAN and of course with the ASEAN as a group," said Minister Retno.

For Indonesia, South Korea is one of the important partners in the national economic growth. In line with this, South Korea determines to improve both countries’ cooperation in trade and investment fields.

"The special envoy conveys the South Korean government's commitment to boost cooperation in the economic sector, especially in trade and investment," Retno said.

The envoy also conveyed President Moon's invitation to have a bilateral meeting with President Joko Widodo at the sidelines of the G-20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany in July.

"President Moon would like to have a bilateral meeting with President Joko Widodo at the G-20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany in July," said Retno.

Indonesia and South Korea have established mutual bilateral relation and cooperation. President Joko Widodo had also been awarded Honorary Citizenship of Seoul during his visit in 2016.

"Last year, President Joko Widodo visited South Korea and received Honorary Citizenship award from Seoul City. There is also a cooperation between Seoul and Jakarta," Retno concluded.
