Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi appreciated the cooperation between PT Universal Satelit Indonesia (Unisat) with Intersputnik Russia in preparation of Unisat satellite launch in 2020. The minister hoped that the satellite can support the needs of the information technology in the transportation sector.

The cooperation document was signed by Unisat president director Widodo Mardijono and Intersputnik Russia CEO Vadim Belov and was witnessed by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi; Communication and Information Technology Minister Rudiantara; Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Wahid Supriyadi; Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Michael Yurievich Galuzin; and Maritime Security (Bakamla) Head Ari Soedewo on Tuesday (2/28) in Jakarta.

Minister Budi said modern transport infrastructure such as airports and ports rely heavily on information technology for acquiring logistics data and weather forecast information as well as for navigation and data communications.

The satellite, he added, is expected to improve the information technology system of the national transportation in airports, ports, railway stations, and bus terminals.

"This satellite brings great advantage in supporting the IT development on the transportation sector. I highly appreciate Communications and Information Technology Minister Rudiantara who has been striving to improve the connectivity of Indonesia through the development of IT," said Minister Budi.

He added that the increasing development in the transport sector will also have an impact on improving the economic, educational, and political stability. (Translator: Siti Chodijah)
