Jakarta, InfoPublik - After getting no title at the tournament held at Istora two weeks ago, Indonesia could get the title of the Australian Open Super Series, although only in the men's doubles.
The only number won by the "Red and White" representatives in the tournament held at the Sports Center, Olympic Boulevard, Sydney was the men's doubles.
Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Markus Fernaldi Gideon came out as the champion in the final today, Sunday (6/12), after defeating their compatriots, Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanda Suwardi.
Kevin/Marcus, who were placed seventh on the favourite list, completed their fight against the sixth favourite in just 33 minutes. They won 21-14, 21-15.
For Kevin/Marcus, this is their second title in the Super Series level. They got their first title at the Indian Open in 2016, also by defeating Angga/Ricky in the final.
Unfortunately, women's doubles Greysia Polii/Nithya Krishinda Maheswari failed to contibute a title for Indonesia. Playing in the final match against a new double of China, Bao Yixin/Chen Wingchen, they lost two straight games, 21-23, 17-21.
"We should accept the defeat(..) we still have a month for the Olympics. Our purpose here was to practice for the upcoming Olympics. The atmosphere of training and competition are different," said Greysia in PBSI PR release, Sunday (6/12).
"Overall we built confidence together here. We really helped each other so that this could be a stepping stone for our better performances in the upcoming Olympics," she concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
