Jakarta, InfoPublik - Two Indonesian mixed doubles has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open Super Series 2016. Meanwhile, Ihsan Maulana Mustafa and Jonatan Christie failed.

Praveen/Debby defeated the Korean doubles, Jae Hwan Kim/Kim Ji Won in the first round match at the Sports Centre, Sydney, on Wednesday (6/8). Praveen/Debby won two straight games 21-18, 21-13.

In the second round, Praveen/Debby, placed at the sixth on the favourite list, will face Yong Kai Terry Hee/Wei Han Tan. The Singaporean pair advanced after defeating the Indonesian representatives, Ronald Alexander/Melati Daeva Oktaviani, 16-21, 21-15, 21-14.

Another mixed doubles who managed to go to the second round are Riky Widianto/Puspita Richi Dili, after an easy win over the host doubles, Jonatha Sun/Jennifer Tam, 21-8, 21-10.

Meanwhile on the men's singles, Ihsan and Jonathan were were stopped in the first round. Ihsan lost to Sameer Verma (India) after fighting three games 20-22, 21-15, 15-21. Meanwhile, Jonathan was unable to overcome Heo Kwang Hee (Korea) and lost 15-21, 14-21.

"I played less variation in my game. And I was also influenced to set the ball back, whereas it was his favorite. In addition, i felt my legs were heavy because of the cold weather and a little sore on my thigh. I was still adapting and not really ready yet,” Jonathan said in Badminton Association of Indonesia/PBSI’s release in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/6).

In men's singles, Indonesia still has Anthony Ginting and Sony Dwi Kuncoro who have not competed yet. From the women's singles, Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky who is the only representative of Indonesia, advanced to the second round.
