Jakarta, InfoPublik - Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir had to be disappointed by the results at the Australian Open Super Series 2016. Early at the first round, Tontowi/Liliyana was defeated by non-favorite doubles.
In the match held at the Sidney Sports Centre, on Wednesday (6/8), Tontowi/Liliyana had to lose by Danish doubles, Anders Skaarup Rasmussen/Maiken Fruergaard. Fought for three games, Tontowi/Liliyana, who were placed as the top favourite, lost 12-21, 21-18, 15-21.
This is worse than last year's achievement. In 2015, Tontowi/Liliyana could go to the semifinals before losing to Lee Chun Hei/Chau Hoi Wah (Hong Kong).
After this defeat, Tontowi/Liliyana were failed to make up for the failure at the preceding Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2016. In front of the public in Istora, Tontowi/Liliyana were defeated in the second round, also from Danish doubles, Kim Astrup/Line Kjaersfeldt.
Thus, the remaining Indonesian representatives in the mixed doubles in the second round are Riky Widianto/Puspita Richi Dili and Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto.
Meanwhile, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Markus Fernaldi Gideon succeeded to qualify for the second round after defeating Malaysian doubles, Ahmad Mazlan Maziri/Amir Syazwan Al Razi Moh. Shahriman Bakhtir, 21-10, 21-8.
With their victory, the men’s doubles have placed their four representatives in the second round. Indonesia is likely to add one more representative after Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan played against the host representatives, Ferry Kurniawan/Chia Sheng Lim. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
