Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesian Team had officially been sent to the Thomas-Uber Cup final 2016 in Kunshan, China. Thomas team is targeted to win the final and Uber team to the semifinals.
The inauguration of Thomas-Uber teams was marked by national flag kissing. The innauguration was held in the celebration of Indonesian Badminton Association’s (PBSI) 65 birthday in PBSI national training camp in Cipayung, Monday (5/9).
The event was also chaired by PBSI chairman Gita Wirjawan. "We have a good opportunity to be champion of Asian Team Championships in men category. However, we cannot be over-confident. We aim to be champion," Mr. Wirjawan said in his speech.
"We have a good history of winning the Thomas 13 times. The last time was Indonesia won the Thomas Cup is in 2002, almost 14 years ago, whereas the last time we won the Uber Cup was even longer, in 1996,” said Mr. Wirjawan
In the Thomas rounds, Indonesia will face Thailand, India, and Hong Kong. While in the Uber rounds, Indonesia will face Bulgaria, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
Indonesian Thomas-Uber teams will depart for Kunshan on Wednesday, May 11 with Garuda Airlines. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
