Jakarta, InfoPublik – The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) stated that FIFA will pay a visit to Indonesia. The world football federation will meet PSSI and Indonesian government at the end of April.
PSSI Secretary General Azwan Karim stated in PSSI official website on Thursday (4/14) that it had received a letter from FIFA related to the plan.
"PSSI has received a letter informing FIFA will meet PSSI and Erick Thohir," said Azwan.
Azwan explained that PSSI has appointed Agum Gumelar as a representative to the meeting. Agum is currently the Chairman of the Ad-Hoc reform committee for PSSI. The government will be represented by the Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Erick Thohir.
Erick Thohir was said to have met FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Switzerland some time ago. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Erick conducted the meeting after attending a World Basketball Federation event.
FIFA is scheduled to convene a congress in Mexico on May 12-13. The future of Indonesian football will become one of the themes to be discussed in the congress. If Indonesia Youth and Sports Minister’s decision letter to freeze PSSI is not revoked before the congress, FIFA’s sanction for Indonesia will most likely be discussed at the congress and potentially be extended. If so, FIFA’s sanctions for Indonesia may onnly be restored at the next congress, scheduled to be held in May 2017. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
