Indonesia Attends Population Conference in New York

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia is taking part in the Commission on Population and Development 49th Session held in New York, April 11 to 15, 2016.
 
Indonesian National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) stated in Jakarta, Monday (4/11), that Indonesian delegation is led by BKKBN head Surya Chandra Surapaty. Under the chairmanship of Mwaba Patricia Kasese-Bota of Zambia, the conference is opened under the theme “strengthening the demographic evidence base for the post-2015 development agenda”.
 
The Commission on Population and Development is a functional commission established by the Economic and Social Council (EC OSOC), an organization under the United Nations in charge of economic and social problems. CPD has a major task to follow up on action programs mandated by the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
 
As a functional commission that assists ECOSOC, CPD also performs monitoring, review and evaluation of program implementation on national, regional and international levels. CPD also functions to give input to the ECOSOC.
 
The commission consists of 47 members, elected by the Economic and Social Council and works for four year terms on the basis of geographical distribution. The representatives must have relevant background in population and development.
 
CPD members coming from Asia-Pacific group this year are Bangladesh, China, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan and the Philippines. Currently Indonesia serves as an observer, after being Indonesia a member in the period of 2001-2013. 
 
Meanwhile, in addition to BKKBN officials, Indonesian delegates also come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cabinet Secretariat of The Republic of Indonesia. (Siti Chodijah)
