Foreign Tourist Visits In 2015 Reaches 10.41 Million, Exceeds Govt Target

Jakarta, InfoPublik - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that in 2015, there were 10.41 million foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia. This number has exceeded the government’s target of 10 million visits.

Head of BPS, Suryamin, said the number increased by 3.12 percent compared to 2014 at 9.43 million. "Except in December 2015, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia slightly dropped to 913.800 or fell by 0.16 percent compared to the same month in 2014," Mr. Suryamin said in Jakarta, Tuesday (2/2).
 
Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali became the favorite arrival point for the majority of foreign tourist reaching 3.9 million visits. The number continued to increase despite the eruption of Mount Rinjani in November 2015.
 
BPS also recorded the arrival number in some major airports in the country, namely, Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta 2.3 million, Hang Nadim Airport in Batam 1.5 million, Juanda Airport in Surabaya 200,800, Kualanamu Airport in Medan 197,800, Husein Sastranegara Airport in Medan 159,500, and 1.3 million in other airports.
 
Meanwhile, the number of tourists from China increased in December 2015 at 84,659 people. In the other side, the arrivals from four major countries decreased, namely Singapore at 190,130, Malaysia 139,385, Australia 98,095, and Japan 41,501. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
