Jakarta, InfoPublik - The Indonesian government will use its G20 presidency as a springboard to demonstrate its commitment to raising literacy levels in the country.
Didik Suhardi, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture's Deputy for Mental Revolution, Promotion of Culture, and Sports Achievement, revealed this on Monday, March 14.
"I believe we should also use the momentum of the G20 to demonstrate that Indonesia is serious about increasing literacy," Didik remarked.
He went on to say that Indonesia has succeeded in registering literacy such as Javanese, Balinese, and Sundanese scripts, last year.
According to Didik, Indonesia can present art and cultural performances at the G20 so that G20 attendees are aware of the country's diversity.
"Moreover, the world is aware of and acknowledges the diversity of the Indonesian country, which stretches from Sabang to Merauke." "UNESCO has also designated Indonesia as a cultural superpower," Didik added.
Collaboration System
However, the government recognizes that there are numerous obstacles to improving literacy in Indonesia. A Penta helix collaboration involving five elements, namely the government, academia, business, community, and mass media, is required.
Didik emphasized the importance of literacy in the development of quality Indonesian human resources. The Penta helix collaboration required necessitates the use of a system capable of automatically collaborating all elements.
"As a result, we will devise a system that will allow us to collaborate without having to do so manually." It is the system that will compel people to collaborate as part of our efforts to improve literacy," Didik explained.
According to a survey conducted by the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and released by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2019, Indonesian literacy is ranked 62 out of 70 countries or is among the bottom ten countries with low literacy levels.
