Jakarta, InfoPublik - Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) signed an agreement on the utilization of ITERA’s two hectares of land for the development of a laboratory.
It would be a facility for teaching, learning, observation, and research on meteorology, climatology, geophysics, weather, and seismicity.
This laboratory would also use equipment in accordance with World Meteorology Organization’s (WMO) standard and is expected to be the world’s data reference.
“It would also complete the development of atmospheric and planetary science study program at ITERA,” said BMKG head Andi Eka Sakya in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/13).
He said this facility would increase observatory density points across Indonesia. “The more labs [equipment] spread across, the denser the observation. As a result, it would increase BMKG’s climate and weather prediction quality,” he said.
The cooperation included the utilization of ITERA property for placing BMKG’s observation equipment; exchange of data and information; capacity building for human resources; research and development; and development of atmospheric and planetary science study program.
BMKG actively played a role in the development of atmospheric and planetary science study program which would be established at ITERA.
The agreement also included BMKG employees’ opportunities to deliver lecture and participate in research and development activities at ITERA.
It is the follow-up of previous agreement signed on Oct. 6, 2016 on the facility utilization, education, research, and development on meteorology, climatology, and geophysics as well as the development of atmospheric and planetary science study program and community service at ITERA.
