President Jokowi Reviews Private Universities Acquisition Policy

Jakarta, InfoPublik - President Joko Widodo—Jokowi as he commonly known—led a closed meeting to discuss some issues on the Government acquisition policy on a number of private universities at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (1/6).
 
"This afternoon’s closed meeting reviews Government policy to acquire private university to be changed into state university," said President Jokowi.
 
He stated there are 29 private universities status change which are being processed since 2010. However, due to some arising issues, the Government decided to conduct a moratorium on August 2013.
 
"In a closed meeting on June 23, 2015, the Government also decided to extend the moratorium," he said.
 
President Jokowi believed the acquisition is a good policy to improve education access and equity throughout Indonesia, especially in the outermost and underdeveloped regions.
 
"Thus, I was asking Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education to explain the [acquisition] progress regarding properties, assets, and the status of 4,300 lecturers and employees that need to be resolved," he said.
 
The closed meeting was attended by the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir, the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, the Minister of Health Nila Moeloek, the Vice-Minister of Finance Mardiasmo, and the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of National Development Planning Agency Sofyan Djalil.
