Indonesia to Utilize Digital Technology to Harmonizing Global Health Protocols

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Health Ministry held The First Health Working Group (HWG) meeting in Jogjakarta, March, 28-30, 2022. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the agenda discussed at the meeting was Harmonizing Global Health Protocol Standards.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin at The First G20 HWG press conference, Monday, March 28, said that his party would utilize digital technology to harmonize global protocols.

"We will utilize digital technology. Indonesia has had bilateral discussion with Saudi Arabia and they have Tawakkalna platform that is already connected to PeduliLindung," said Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin

In addition, he said, his party has opened conversations with ASEAN countries and non-ASEAN countries to harmonize protocol standard.

Indonesia has also discussed with the European Union (EU) to harmonize its protocol standard with ASEAN [countries]. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained that it had been agreed to use the standards from the World Health Organization (WHO).

"This is for the exchange of information and digitizing information related to vaccines and PCR tests so that the mobility of people around the world or people who travel every year can be more efficient and to support their mobility,” said Health Minister.

The need for Harmonizing Global Health Protocol Standards, said Health Minister, so that when people travel to other countries, there will be standards regarding vaccine requirements, PCR test, guarantees, etc.

It's the same as when traveling abroad, said the Health Minister, exactly the same as the immigration process. The Minister continued, passport documents, immigration process to the destination airport, all are checked, passport stamped, then exit the airport.

"That's what we want to do, that the standard of health protocol will be simple and same all over the world," he said.

There are three main agendas for Indonesia’s G20 Presidency with the theme Recover Together, Recover Stronger. For the health agenda, the main theme is Reform the Global Health System Architecture

"We feel that the COVID-19 pandemic has really made us realize that the world's health system needs to be improved a lot. So that we can be better prepared to face the next pandemics," said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

In order to strengthen the Structure System Health Architecture, with the health theme Restructuring the Global Health Architecture, there are three main agendas that are carried out.

The first agenda is related to Global Health System Resilience or the resilience of the global health system. The second agenda is Harmonizing Health Protocol Standards or health procedures for international travel.

The third agenda is the Resolution Global Manufacturing Hub and Global Research Hub. To strengthen it, it is necessary to discuss the research capabilities and manufacturing capabilities of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics.
