Jakarta, InfoPublik - The Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Teten Masduki, stated that based on data in 2021, female entrepreneurs in Indonesia increased by 114 percent, 60 percent of whom are aged between 40-59 years.

The role of women in the country's economy is also getting bigger. Therefore, the momentum of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency of 2022 is expected to further strengthen this role globally.

This was stated by Minister Teten in his remark virtually, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the Women 20 (W20) event as part of the Indonesia’s G20 Presidency of 2022 with the theme “Recover Together, Equally” held in Batu City, Malang, East Java.

Minister Teten stated that there are 64 million MSMEs players in Indonesia and 60 percent of them have contributed to national economy. The role of women today is no longer a substitute but a main player.

“64 percent [of Indonesian entrepreneurs] are women, in other words, Indonesian women are no longer the second player, they make big contribution as entrepreneurs. It is very clear that the role of women is very significant in MSMEs," said Minister Teten.

He continued, in the last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, women have also played a major role in overcoming the pandemic in the community. Around 10 percent of women start businesses in the health sector, higher than men who only contributed five percent.

According to statistics data, 62 percent of women entrepreneurs help increase their income. This is also driven by economic pressure to increase household income.

"I hope that this event can provide benefits for all who participate and bring positive impact on women entrepreneurs, women MSME players," said Minister Teten.
