Menaker-Menparekraf Discuss Tourism and Creative Economy Ambassador Program

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Manpower Minister (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah received a visit from Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekaf) Sandiaga Salahudin Uno at Manpower Ministry office, South Jakarta, Wednesday (2/24).

The two discussed Ambassador program for Tourism and Creative Economy, improving creative economy workers' competence, and Work Training Center (BLK).

Ida said that her ministry would establish cooperation with an MoU with Parekraf Ministry to prepare 500,000 skilled workers in the tourism sector throughout 2021 in supporting the five super-priority tourism destinations development in Indonesia (Lake Toba, Likupang, Borobudur, Mandalika, and Labuan Bajo).

According to Ida, the move to prepare hundreds of thousands of skilled workers is part of the two major programs of the Ministry of Manpower for recovery in the tourism sector, namely increasing human resource skills and expanding job opportunities in local tourism areas.

"Manpower Ministry is also building vocational-based communities for tourism and hospitality (BLK), amounting to 2,127 BLKs since 2017-2020 throughout Indonesia," said Ida.

In addition to BLK, Ida added that her ministry establishes an MoU to make Indonesian migrant workers into tourism ambassadors to represent and introduce Indonesia to the world.

"We already establish an MoU to make our migrant workers tourism ambassadors. They are the spearhead of tourism development in Indonesia," she added.

Ida also explained that the tourism sector is not only filled with formal workers but also informal workers. Also, local culinary delights and local crafts are currently considered potential.

"We have BLK managed by the central and local government that we will continue to strengthen," explained Ida.

Meanwhile, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno acknowledged the meeting with Menaker Ida Fauziyah was to conform to several programs. One of them is the tourism and creative economy ambassador program for migrant workers. Second, increasing competence in 34 million employment fields in the tourism sector and the creative economy.

"I am very impressed with the BLK in the community to improve the service sector," Sandiaga said.

According to Sandi, his ministry with the Manpower Ministry also agreed to share data in the Manpower Information System (SISNAKER). "We are also developing the system place workers right on target, especially in 34 million employment fields in the tourism sector.
