Indonesia, Singapore Discuss Geothermal Energy Potentials

Jakarta, Infopublik—Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Tasrif held a bilateral meeting with the government of Singapore which was represented by Mnister in the Prime Minister’s Office Tan See Leng.

The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation on energy development.

According to Arifin, the Indonesian government is currently focussing on developing new renewable energy (NRE) potentials, as a measure for energy transition.

“The bilateral meeting with Singapore is expected to intensify cooperation in facing challenges in energy transition,” Arifin told in a statement, Thursday (29/10).

Both ministers agreed on the enormous potential of cooperation in the field of energy transition that can be developed by both countries to further stages, one of which is geothermal potential in Sumatra.

In addition to energy transition cooperation, Singapore is currently investing Indonesia in the oil and gas, electricity, mineral and coal, and new renewable energy subsectors.  

Singapore is chairman of the Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub Sector Network (REPP-SSN) which is responsible for the drafting of ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation Phase 2: 2021-2025.

REPP-SSN will launch its 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook document which is developed based on ten ASEAN member countries’ energy policies and targets.

The document will serve as the main source for information, analysis, and projection on energy in the region, as well as provide in-depth insight on  the outlook of ASEAN’s energy supply and consumption. (Photo: Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry)
