Jakarta, InfoPublik--Indonesia's Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry and digital application-based education startup company, CAKAP, have agreed to provide English e-learning courses to Indonesian tourism industry actors in the midst of COVID-19 outbreak.
The Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT. Cerdas Digital Nusantara (CAKAP) on the said cooperation in Jakarta on Monday, 30 March 2020. Tourism and creative economy ministry was represented by Acting Deputy for Tourism and Creative Ecnomy Minister for Resource and Institution Dr. Frans Teguh, while PT. Cerdas Digital was represented by Executive Director Tomy Yunus Tjen.
The MoU signing marked the beginning of cooperation between the two parties to provide online English trainings to Indonesian tourism industry actors.
CAKAP is a startup which provides education service through digital application technology, focusing on capacity development of human resource through online language trainings.
Tourism and Creative Economy minister Wishnutama Kusubandio stated that this cooperation reflected the commitment and optimism to keep developing capacity and competitiveness in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"This program has a strategic meaning for us, especially because the learning process will be conducted in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Wishnutama.
In the tourism industry, English skill is a key element to support service, especially in service provision for international tourists.
Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has responsibility to encourage and develop human resources in the tourism field.
"Such collaboration enables us to reach more participants so that efforts to increase tourism industry actors' language skills can be done more massively," said Tourism and Creative Economy Deputy Minister Angela Tanoesoedibjo.
For initial stage, online English training will be given to tourist guides within 5 Super Priority Destinations (DSP). Frans stated that this training is expected to increase communication skills of Indonesian tourism industry actors, which eventually will be useful when the outbreak ends and tourism activities resumes.
