Pontianak, InfoPublik - The capital city relocation plan is still under study, the National Development Planning Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said. Thus, there is no decision on the location that will replace Jakarta as the capital city of Indonesia.
"We are still conducting a complete study on the relocation justification and the ideal location criteria," said Minister Bambang after giving a public lecture titled "Equity Drives Sustainable Economic Growth in Kalimantan Island" at Tanjungpura University, West Kalimantan on Monday (8/28).
Although there is no official statement confirming Kalimantan as the location of the future capital, the price of land in several cities in the island especially in the city of Palangkaraya is skyrocketing.
The minister stated that the increase in land price is an effect of speculators’ action. "No one has moved anywhere yet. It [land price hike] is just some speculators’ action," he said.
Previously, the Minister had confirmed that the new capital city should be located outside Java island. This is based on the results of previous studies. There are several potential candidate cities to become the new capital. He admitted that one of the new capital candidates is Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
