Baliem Valley Festival Kickoffs at 8-11 August 2017

Jakarta, InfoPublik –Baliem Valley Cultural Festival, which is one of the oldest festivals in Papua,  will be held again in Wamena, 8-11 August 2017.

The uniqueness of indigenous Papuan culture consisting of hundreds of tribes will be showcased in this festival. "We hold Baliem Valley Cultural Festival annually to showcase our culture to be enjoyed by our children and grandchildren. This is entertainment for people in Wamena-Jayawijaya, also for the tourists who come to Wamena," said Jayawijaya Regent John Wempi Wetipo in a press conference at Morrissey Hotel, Tuesday (8/1) as conveyed in a press release.

There will be a variety of exciting activities for tourists, such as spear war game between tribals and waterfall tours. The purpose of this festival is to preserve the indigenous culture of Papua, one of which is war between tribes.

"This is the 28th Baliem Valley Cultural Festival. From this festival, we aim to preserve the culture and impression for our children and grandchildren. The activities are war games, dances and pig races," said Jayawijaya Tourism Office Head Jayawijaya Alpius Wetipo.

In addition, according to him, traditional woven embroidery, which also has become an international culture will also be exhibited in the festival.. The other activities are rock burn attraction and archery for foreign tourists, "said Wetipo.

When visiting Baliem Valley Festival, you should not miss other other exotic tourism attractions such as salt water, blue lake cave, and white sand on the mountain.
