Toll Road in Southern Java to Boost People’s Welfare

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Public Works and Public Housing Ministry planned to develop toll road connecting the southern region of Java. This construction is expected to support the acceleration of regional development and to bring positive impact on community’s welfare.

Head of the Ministry’s Regional Infrastructure Development Agency (BPIW) Rido Matari explained that infrastructure development which was aimed to realize connectivity will provide opportunities to accelerate development in various aspects. "Adequate infrastructure is pivotal for a rapid regional development," he said.

Rido added that in addition to the currently-existing route linking Cileunyi-Garut-Tasikmalaya to Yogyakarta, the government will build toll road as an alternative route to support development acceleration in southern Java," said Rido Matari in a press release received by InfoPublik, Thursday (9/2).

Rido said that in its effort to build infrastructure, Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is using region-based method called Strategic Regional Development (WPS). The method is one of the efforts to overcome development gaps. Currently there are 35 WPS throughout Indonesia.

"WPS builds connectivity and also responds to problems of cities and regional development should it arises," he said.

In addition to the toll road development plan, he added, the Ministry has prepared a number of infrastructure developments in the southern part of Java, one of which will be able to support the development of Tasikmalaya and its surroundings area. (Translator: Siti Chodijah)
