The Important Role of Media in National Unity

Ambon, InfoPublik – Indonesian Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Pandjaitan stated that  media has an important and strategic role in building and maintaining national unity.

"Media has a very important role, it is essential to maintain our country’s integrity," Luhut said during  National Mass Media Convention, National Press Day (HPN) 2017 in Baileo Siwaluma, Ambon, on Wednesday (8/2).

Luhut added that media also have to contribute in alleviating defamatory and fake news  that bring negative impact to society. The role of media can be realized by providing a peaceful atmosphere to society.

Maritime Coordinating Minister also urged  all elements of society to work together against the defamatory and fake news.

"To all fellow media, Internet development in Indonesia is remarkable and the impact is tremendous. The future of our country is in your hand. ...Let’s bring positive atmosphere to society through truthful information, combat false news, " Luhut said.

Luhut said that National Press Day (HPN)  2017 is a good momentum to exchange ideas. He also added that the press and the government have a dynamic relationship and that is natural.

"Press with its dynamic can remind the government and vice versa. I think that’s a part of the dynamics of a state," Luhut said. (Translator: Sugiarti)
