Jakarta, InfoPublik – The National Standardization Agency (BSN) had specified 20 Indonesian National Standards (SNI) for lubricants, the specification was based on the development of science and technology and consumer protection consideration, as well as the alarming sirculating unsafe lubricants.

“By implementing the SNIs for lubricants, consumers would feel safer and more convinced. Lubricants are used in motor vehicle and they deal with safety aspect,” said BSN Chief, Bambang Prasetya, in the event of Ngobrol Bareng Santai (Ngobras) at BSN office, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/7).

He mentioned that the SNI-qualified lubricants are already consistent with the safe and quality lubricant products specification. The qualification comprises the characteristics of chemical physics, including viscosity and performance parameters. “Viscosity is the quantity that describes a fluid's resistance to flow,” he said.

Viscosity level of 4 stroke gasoline-powered motorcycle motor lubricants can be divided into monograde viscosity (SAE 30, SAE 40, and SAE 50) and multigrade viscosity (SAE 20W-40, SAE 20W-50, and SAE-40).

Four stroke gasolin-powered motorcycle motor lubricants are fluid lubricants that are the result from the mixture of base lubricating oils derived from petroleum (mineral), repeated base lubricating oils and other materials, including systhetic materials plus additives, that are used to lubricate the 4 stroke gasolin-powered motorcycle motor.

Some of the 20 SNIs for lubricants are SNI 7069.9:2016 on classification title and lubricant specification part 9 for anti-wear type industry hydraulic lubricating oil; SNI 7069.2:2012 on classification title and lubricant specification part 2 for 4 stroke gasolin-powered motorcycle motor; and SNI 06-1669-1989 on classification title for engine gears for motor vehicles.

Some other classifications are SNI 06-1670 -1989 on classification title for engine gears for non-motor vehicles; and 7069.18:2008 on classification title and lubricant specification part 18 for circulation lubricants. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
