Jakarta, InfoPublik – In line with Bank Indonesia’s prediction, Consumer Price Index (IHK) on September 2016 recorded an inflation at 0.22% (mtm). This was relatively under control and in accordance with the historical pattern.

In accordance with such development, IHK inflation was recorded at 1.97% year-to-date (ytd) and 3.07% year-on-year (yoy).

BI Executive Director  of Communications Tirta Segara in Jakarta, Thursday (10/06), said that inflation on September was contributed by the administered prices (AP) component and the core component.

“AP component inflation was recorded at 0.14% (mtm) or annual deflation at 0.38% (yoy),” said Tirta.

He explained that the monthly AP inflation was contributed by the price increase of filtered cigarette, electricity, kretek cigarette, white cigarette, and water.

In the meantime, core component inflation was recorded at 0.33% (mtm) or 3.21% (yoy), which was lower than the average historical inflation on September. It was still in line with the limited domestic demand, controlled inflation expectation, and the relatively stable rupiah exchange rate.

He elaborated that some commodities that contributed to the core inflation were the tariff of cell phone credit, house rent, academy/university tuition fee, automobile, rice and the side dish, and home rental rate. On the other hand, volatile food (VF) component deflation was recorded at 0.09% (mtm) or the annual inflation was at 6.51% (yoy).

The deflation was mainly contributed by the decrease of the price of chicken egg, chicken, carrot, cayenne pepper, spinach, water spinach, and potato.

“In the future, inflation would still be under control and on lower than the  2016 inflation target at 4%±1% (yoy),” said he.

He stated that the coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia in controlling the inflation would be continued, especially in  anticipating the pressure of VF inflation caused by La Nina phenomenon.

“Coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia would be focused on the effort of ensuring the supply and distribution of especially the various basic commodities, as well as keeping the inflation expectation,” he concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
