Jakarta, InfoPublik - In response to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 7 of 2016 on the Acceleration of Development of National Fisheries Industry signed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo a week ago, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti summoned a number of fishing companies and associations in Mina Bahari Building IV, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (31/8), to discuss efforts to accelerate the development of fishing industry arranged by Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF). The event was closed to the media and was attended by senior officials of MMAF.
The Inpres is addressed to 25 officials, namely Coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister; Coordinating Maritime Affairs minister, coordinating economic minister; Coordinating human development and culture minister; Home Affairs Minister; Foreign Affairs Minister; finance minister; transportation minister;industry minister; trade minister;energy and mineral resources minister; public works and public housing minister; state owned enterprises minister; research and higher education minister; maritime affairs and fisheries minister; cooperatives and small and medium enterprises minister; Army (TNI) Commander; National Police Chief; the Attorney General; Maritime Security Board (Bakamla) head; Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head; National Agency on Border Management ( BNPP) head, Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM)head; governors and regents/mayors.
President Jokowi instructed the 25 officials to take coordinated and integrated measures in accordance with duties, functions and authority of each Ministry/Agency to accelerate the development of national fisheries industry.
The measures include increasing the production of capture fisheries, aquaculture, and the processing of fisheries products, improving the distribution and logistics of fisheries products and strengthening competitiveness, acceleration of structure and management of sea space and Fisheries Management Area (WPPNRI) mapping in accordance with capacity and resources and monitoring offisheries resources.
Moreover, the Inpres mentions the importance of accelerating the provision of basic facilities and infrastructure and supporting national fisheries industry, accelerating the increase in number and competence of human resources, the innovation of science and environmentally friendly technology for fisheries, accelerating licensing services in the field of national fisheries industry, and action plan to accelerate development of national fisheries industry.
The President specially instructed Minister Susi to evaluate legislation that hamper the development of fisheries, aquaculture, processing, marketing in the country, export of fisheries products, and national salt ponds.
In addition, the President asked Susi to arrange the roadmap of national fisheries industry, to determine the location and masterplan of national fishery industry area as national strategic project. (Translator: Sugiarti)
