Jakarta, InfoPublik - Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Survey indicates that Indonesian consumer are optimistic about the country’s economic prospects.
Indonesia’s April 2016 Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) indicated optimism at 109.0, despite its slight decrease from the previous 109.8 last month.
"The decline in the April 2016 CCI was mainly attributed by the decrease of current economic conditions index, particularly in consumer perceptions of current income and the timely purchase of durable goods," said Bank Indonesia’s Department of Communications Executive Director Tirta Segara in Jakarta, Friday (5/6).
According to him, the survey also showed that consumers predict price increase pressures to rise in July 2016. This is indicated on the Price Expectation Index of the next three months which is recorded to increase by 2.6 points to 174.0.
Mr. Segara added that the increasing pressure of price increases is expected to occur primarily in the clothing and foodstuffs along with the prediction of increasing demand ahead of Eid.
"For the next six months (October 2016), consumers expected that the increase of savings will not be higher than the previous month. Meanwhile, the increase in the number of loans is estimated to be higher than in the previous months," he concluded. (Translator: Siti Chodijah)
