Ministry of Industry Prepares Four Policies to Encourage MRO Industry

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia Ministry of Industry sets up four policies to encourage local aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industry.

The four policies to encourage local MRO are: first, provision of aircraft components by encouraging the industrial development through cooperation with the Indonesian Aircraft and Component Manufacturer Association (INACOM).

"The flight service industry and the aircraft industry are in cooperation with INACOM and prioritize components produced by domestic industry to save foreign exchange as well as to encourage the growth of domestic component industry," said Industry Ministry’s Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronic Industries I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan in Jakarta, Thursday (4/21).

Second, increasing the number of MRO industry human resources (HR). It is estimated that Indonesia would need approximately 12-15 thousand experts in MRO industry up to the next 15 years. Currently, flight engineering schools in Indonesia only produce 200 experts per year where as the demand is 1,000 experts per year.

Third, development of integrated aerospace industrial park which is required to support domestic aerospace industry.

"The aerospace park consists of aircraft industry, aircraft component industry, MRO industry, flight service industry and other supporting industries, including university as a place to develop aerospace human resource," he explained.

Lastly, providing incentives to increase national aerospace industry’s competitiveness in order to grow and develop to meet national and international market, as well as to encourage businesses actors to conduct new breakthroughs in facing of the Asean Economic Community (AEC).

Furthermore, Industry Ministry will provide support through the facilitation of national aerospace human resource capacity and competency building to meet the assigned national and international qualification and standards. (Translator : Erik Limantara)
