Jakarta, InfoPublik- Indonesian House of Representative (DPR) supports the government's efforts to increase tax revenue, starting from the Law on Tax Amnesty proposal, human resources improvement, to information technology optimization.

"The government should also simplify the access. Tax officers often complain about the absent of access to the banking systems. Currently, banking systems are restricted for confidentiality reasons, so it is somewhat difficult to increase tax revenues,” said House of Representatives Commission XI member Eva Kusuma Sundari in Jakarta, Wednesday (3/30).

According to Eva, we can learn from neighboring countries such as Singapore, where various state agencies are connected. They have not only good IT system and human resources, but also open access.

The government hoped that tax can contribute bigger to the state budget. Therefore, the problems concerning  tax revenues should be addressed by the authorities. “In the near future, there will be a single-indentity-number system, it is a huge leap in the performance of the Directorate General of Taxation," she said.

She added that transparency in the banking system needs to be maximized, because there are certain state officials who have great amount of savings which are not proportional compared to their salaries and allowances. It needs to be cleared so the people can perceive fairness .

She also stated that the increasing tax revenue target is not easy to achieve considering the sluggish business world and the slow economic growth. The government should encourage better economic growth.

"Tax revenue estimation must be accurate, if it isn’t, the targeted tax revenue can not be achieved. Therefore, assessment of tax potential should be carried out carefully," she said. (Translator : Erik Limantara)
