Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has planned to distribute thousands of fishing boats to fishermen in 2016. The total number of ships to be distributed is 3,325 units in various sizes.
Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti explained that the procurement of the fishing boats would expend 27 percent of budget allocation of the Ministry’s total budget of 2016 for the provision of fisheries facilities and infrastructure. "This year we will spend about 27 percent of the budget for expenditure alone; investment expenditures in the fisheries and marine sector," Minister Pudjiastuti said in Jakarta, Tuesday (1/12).
Data from the Ministry shows that the total budget for the procurement of 3,325 units of ship to be distributed to fishermen is Rp2.09 trillion. Previously, KKP planned to procure 5,000 units of ship, but it decreased the number after a budget cut of Rp2 trillion.
The 2016 budget allocation for the ship procurement includes Rp306 billion for 1,020 units of ship with less than 5 gross tons (GT); Rp459 billion for 1,020 units of 5 GT ship; and Rp900 billion for 1,000 units of 10 GT ship. Furthermore, Rp362.5 billion is allocated for ships measuring over 10 GT; Rp362.5 billion for 250 units of 20 GT fishing ships; Rp9.25 billion for five units of 30 GT fishing ship; Rp10.25 billion for five units of 30 GT fish distribution ship; and Rp46 billion for 25 units of over 30 GT ships in border areas.
Ms. Pudjiastuti stated that she will continue the procurement of thousands of fishing boats for fishermen this year despite the Rp2 trillion of budget cut by the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
She revealed that for this year her office has allocated Rp3.73 trillion or 27% of its total 2016 budget—revised state budget (APBN-P) of as much as Rp13.8 trillion—to procure facilities ranging from ship to cold storage. "The budget will be used to maximize better distribution of marine and fisheries resource sector, especially in optimizing the supply chain," she said. (Translator: Penni Patmawati Rusman)
